New Release: Plastic Remnant Upgrade Sprue!

Posted on Monday May 30, 2022 at 05:00pm in Models

Remnant Lorican Armor is a marvel of engineering in its own right. Over time, Champions will customize their suits to boost their combat ability even further. This month's release is a new plastic sprue with a range of upgrade options!

This sprue has components to represent various upgrades on your suits, including three each of the following:

  • Prime/Pathfinder Array
  • Defensive Countermeasures
  • Enhanced Targeter
  • Target Tracker
  • Mark Of the Initiate badge
  • Prime Sigil
  • Veteran Prime Sigil

These parts are designed to fit on any of the Remnant suits, where relevant to their unit rules.

New Release: Resin Militus Holista Parts!

Posted on Monday Apr 25, 2022 at 12:00am in Models

The unsung heroes of the Artarian Remnant, Holista Champions forgo personal glory in order to keep the rest of their fire team functioning at peak efficiency.

A Remnant Holista supports its Fire Team as they storm an Epirian defensive line.

While Lorican armor is a technological marvel, its primary weakness is that extended battlefield operation can cause it to overheat, damaging critical systems and injuring the pilot. This problem is exacerbated by many Champions' habit of pushing suit systems past safe operating limits to give themselves more of an edge in combat. To counter this issue, the Holista variant armor swaps out one of the Militus weapon mounts for a Heat Exchange device that can siphon excess heat from nearby suits.

The Holista Parts pack includes a new head variant and the Holista Heat Exchange. These high quality resin components are designed to fit the plastic Militus Battlesuit kit, sold separately.

You can find the Maelstrom's Edge V1 rules for the Holista in the Force Lists section of the Maelstrom's Edge website. If you're playing using the V2 Beta rules, the Remnant document in the Downloads section now has the Holista added in.

New Release: Resin Militus Prime Parts!

Posted on Monday Mar 28, 2022 at 05:00pm in Models

The reliability and mainline capabilities of the Militus suit tend to make it a favourite amongst Fire Team Commanders. Able to access the full range of Militus weapons and equipment, Primes will also often fit their suits with additional, more expensive gear to improve their sensor and communications capabilities and enhance their close quarters abilities.

This high quality resin kit includes a new Militus Prime head and an Aruval Phase Sword hand, designed to fit the plastic Militus Battlesuit kit, sold separately.

Using a compact phase generator built into the grip, the Aruval Phase Blade is an expensive but popular weapon amongst Militus Primes, due to its ability to bypass defensive energy fields.

Model Spotlight: The SecDef Field Commander

Posted on Tuesday Mar 08, 2022 at 06:00pm in Models

The SecDef value nothing more than completing the job they're assigned to in a timely manner, regardless of what it takes to do so. SecDef Field Commanders are the ultimate representation of that mantra. With prototype machine-assisted armor with the strength of several men, firepower equal to a whole squad and advanced targeting and comm systems allowing them to monitor several different feeds simultaneously in real-time, Force Commanders have all of the tools necessary to decimate the enemy.

As with all SecDef units, Field Commanders tend to carry high-end sophisticated Araldyne weaponry, but in their case, these weapons are mounted onto advanced machine-assisted arms, allowing multiple weapons to be fired simultaneously with ease. Each Field Commander is given complete leeway to choose their own weapons load-out to best support their particular fighting style: Hydraulic Fists to rip the enemy apart at close quarters, Araldyne FG19 Flakk Guns obliterate targets at short range, Araldyne LM14 Machine Guns to mow down foes by the dozen and Araldyne LS99 High-Intensity Lasers to melt through even the toughest armor. Not to mention the option to take either back-mounted cluster missile pods or advanced targeting systems!

Ultimately, there are very few situations that a SecDef Field Commander is not able to handle, which does nothing to combat their massive ego, but rather helps to promote a sense of superiority both over any foe, as well as other non-SecDef forces they may be forced to serve beside.

This multipart plastic kit includes one SecDef Master Handler sprue and a 25mm base. Grab yours now from the Maelstrom's Edge webstore here.

Note: If you are still using the first edition of the Maelstrom's Edge rules, this model is an Epirian Master Bot Handler. It has been changed to a SecDef commander in the V2 rules.

You can find the rules for the SecDef Field Commander in the Epirian Foundation Faction List, available in the V2 Beta Rules section here, and assembly instructions for this model here.

New Release: Plastic Artarian Remnant Nimbus Pathfinder!

Posted on Monday Feb 28, 2022 at 06:00pm in Models

Like its heavier Militus cousin, the Nimbus battlesuit is a marvel of Artarian engineering. Designed for sniper and scout roles, the Nimbus trades in the Militus' heavier armour in favour of speed and agility.

A Nimbus Pathfinder surveys the battlefield.

The Nimbus Pathfinder fills a scouting role within Remnant fire teams, using its Pinpoint Scanner to paint enemy units for the attention of heavier Remnant firepower.

This is the second Nimbus model we have released, with the first being a resin model designed to be used as either a Pathfinder or Longshot. Check out the pic below for a comparison of the two (plastic on the left, resin on the right!):

The new model, alongside the original resin model, painted by Winterdyne Commission Modelling

Rules-wise, the Nimbus can be equipped with an array of additional equipment, including Hologram Projectors and Cloak Generators to confound enemy targeting, Vent Systems to assist with cooling, Thermal Trackers to enhance their already formidable shooting, and a Lorican Boostpack when additional speed is required. This kit is compatible with heads and boostpack parts from the plastic Militus kit, and also with the head and cloak generator backpack from the resin Nimbus model. And we'll be releasing a handy upgrade sprue a little later in the year that will cover off some of those other options!

This kit contains a single, plastic Nimbus suit, along with a 40mm plastic base, for use as a Nimbus Pathfinder or Nimbus Pathfinder Prime. The rules for these units can be found in the Force Lists section of the website, or in PDF format in the rules section here.

Model Spotlight: The plastic Faction Expansion Sprue

Posted on Tuesday Feb 22, 2022 at 06:00pm in Models

The Faction Expansion Sprue was an additional sprue created back during the original Battle for Zycanthus kickstarter project, intended to flesh out the Epirian and Karist plastic troops with a few additional options. Here's what's on the sprue!

For the Epirians, the sprue includes some alternate helmeted heads to replace the caps on the Contractor sprue, and some arms with the sleeves rolled down for those wanting a sun-smart militia. It also includes some grenades and melee weapons that you can use to equip Contractor Suppression Teams.

For the Karists, the sprue offers a cybel sword and glaive, and some loincloths for setting up elite Karist Praetorian units.

You can also find a mine for the Shadow Walker, and some loose grenades and weapons that are handy for customising troops, scattering around on scenery, or building Secret Cache objectives!

To build your own elite units of melee doom, you can pick up the Faction Expansion sprue in a handy pack of three along with the rest of the Maelstrom's Edge range from the webstore here.

Model Spotlight: The plastic Militus battlesuit!

Posted on Tuesday Jan 18, 2022 at 06:00pm in Models

Lorican Combat Suits are the pinnacle of Artarian engineering, allowing a House Champion to have the utility and fighting prowess of many soldiers or workers. Each suit wearer is virtually a one man army, equipped with light but incredibly strong alloyed armour plating that is adapted from the same technology that is used in Remnant ship hull plating. It can absorb heat based weapons and even use it to recharge the suit's systems. The armour is quite capable of deflecting even heavy calibre ammunition, and is fully adapted to work in vacuum or underwater.

The most versatile and common of these suits is the Militus, and our multi-part plastic kit lets you build this Artarian workhorse in a huge range of poses to suit your style!

The Militus kit was designed to be as customisable as possible, with articulated joints and a range of different weapon and head options right off the sprue.

Because it's plastic, it's also extremely easy to mix and match with parts from other kits, or to modify the parts to push posing even further!

Thanks to the kit's versatility, you can easily put together a force that includes multiple suits without no duplicates, making your Fire Team unique!

Pick up the Militus suit from the Maelstrom's Edge webstore as a single sprue or in a discounted bundle of four for the price of three - Find them here!

New Release: Faction Starter Bundles

Posted on Monday Nov 01, 2021 at 06:00pm in Models

Available right now, you can launch your Maelstrom's Edge collection with a starter bundle for the Epirian Foundation, Karist Enclave or Broken!

The Battle for Zycanthus set was our original introduction to the Maelstrom's Edge universe and game, and we're extremel;y proud of it. All good things must come to an end, though, and thanks to increased interest over the last 12 months or so we've completely sold out. With the second edition of the Maelstrom's Edge rules on its way, it didn't make much sense to have more of the Zycanthus sets made up, as we'll be releasing individual faction starter sets alongside the new rules. For those looking to get into the game right now, though, we've made up some small bundle deals that let you pick up a few core units for your chosen faction and also include the templates, tokens and other bits and pieces you need to play Maelstrom's Edge.

These bundle deals are available for each of the current factions aside from the Remnant. Theirs will be coming along soon, but is waiting on the next couple of model releases in the queue.

Pick up the rulebook and printable unit, objective and mission cards from the Rules section of the Maelstrom's Edge website, and grab your miniatures starter bundle from the webstore now!

Model Spotlight: The Broken Gnolti

Posted on Tuesday Oct 05, 2021 at 06:00pm in Models

- by Iain Wilson

With its horned visage towering over the rest of its force, the Gnolti cuts an imposing presence on the battlefield. The resin Gnolti kit is one of our most popular, and makes for a fantastic centerpiece for any Broken force. Let's take a look at it!

Originally hired and transported to systems requiring extreme manual labour or exposure to elements lethal to humans, their normally calm, thoughtful temperament made Gnolti easy to integrate into human society. Gnolti are extremely loyal to those who treat them well, gladly risking themselves to protect their friends. Despite being incredibly useful, Gnolti are often denied berths on planetary evacuation ships due to their extreme size. Gnoltis have few opportunities to escape the Maelstrom, and stranded Gnolti are a common recruit into the ragtag warbands of the Broken, where their physical power can be a huge asset.

The Gnolti's impressive physique is clad in makeshift harness and armour, its forearms covered by jury-rigged protective shields that it uses to protect nearby Broken units. The multi-part kit was sculpted for us by the resin techno-wizards at Anvil Industry, and cast in high quality resin.

While the Gnolti kit is easy to assemble and impressive on the table, the resin is also easy to convert, which led to a few conversions that we've featured in previous articles:

New Release: New base sizes!

Posted on Monday Aug 02, 2021 at 06:00pm in Models

Back when the Maelstrom's Edge game was first launched, the budget only allowed for a small range of bases, so we started out with three different base sizes that were specifically designed with the launch model range in mind - a 25mm base for human sized models, and two considerably larger bases for the bigger models. As we started expanding our range, it became apparent that this wasn't going to be suitable for long, as there were too many models planned that would be too large for the 25mm base, but too small for the larger bases. With the completion of a new base tool, we're now able to rectify this with the addition of another 5 base sizes to the range, including 28mm, 32mm, 36mm and 40mm bases, and a much larger 65mm base to keep us covered when we start in models larger than the Hunter or the Mature Angel.

Some of these have already snuck out into the wild, with the recently released Broken Sniper coming with the new 32mm base. Others will be appearing in coming months on other models waiting in the queue.

You can also pick up all of these bases separately from the Maelstrom's Edge webstore now!

New Broken model release: The Sniper!

Posted on Monday Jun 28, 2021 at 06:00pm in Models

Following stealthily on the heels of the Revolutionary Captain comes another new model release for the Broken - The Sniper!

Broken Snipers originate either as marksmen from a planetary military that is displaced by the Maelstrom or pulled from within the ranks of the SARA and trained when it is noticed that they display a high level of accuracy with their rifle. Unfortunately, the Broken simply do not have the types of training facilities that other factions have access to, nor the manufacturing and technology in place to produce state of the art high-powered sniper rifles. All of which means that, one-on-one, Broken Snipers will never be a direct match with their foes. Therefore, the role of a Sniper focuses more on being a jack of all trades thorn in the enemy’s side.

A Sniper amongst the Broken is an immensely valuable battlefield tool and therefore Broken commanders commission their weaponsmiths to produce custom, high-end weapons and tech for their Snipers, so as to give them a fighting chance on the battlefield. Though each Sniper has a slight variation in their kit, their basics usually entail a cloak with powered optical and anti-radar camouflage, along with a drum-fed sniper rifle, which is able to switch on the fly between several different custom-made specialty ammunition types.

As with all Broken, Snipers are the master of stealth, and their ability to pick the right ammunition type to most punish their target before disappearing into the mists before the enemy can return fire in earnest makes them one of the most loathed foes in the spiral arm.

The Broken Sniper is a plastic kit on a single sprue, and is supplied with a 32mm plastic base.

While StackaRack moves on towards completion and production following the successful Kickstarter, we're also hard at work on new releases for Maelstrom's Edge. In the coming weeks, we'll get back to the usual modeling articles here, but in the meantime, here's a short spotlight video on one of our favourite Epirian miniatures - the SecDef Lieutenant!

New Release: Epirian Contractor Support Drone

Posted on Monday Mar 29, 2021 at 05:00pm in Models

Within the Epirian Foundation, many Contractor militia units make use of specialised bots for some extra firepower or to fill battlefield support roles. We introduced the resin weapon drones to boost your Contractor teams on the table a while back, and this week we're adding to your options with a new support drone kit!

This resin kit is comprised of a Support Drone chassis, and optional parts to equip it to join any of three different Contractor unit types. The Recon Package is the standard gear for support drones utilised by Contractor Scout units. Contractor Engineers make use of tool-equipped drones to effect repairs on other damaged bots, while medical drones in Contractor Medic units patch up the force's less hardy human elements.

Model Release - The PDC Gaming Gun Carriage!

Posted on Monday Mar 01, 2021 at 05:00pm in Models

With the past year's challenges wreaking havoc with our schedule, it's been a while between releases. We're getting the ball rolling again with something a little different!

This fantastic gun carriage model was made by PDC Gaming for a Kickstarter campaign some years ago. It's a multipart plastic kit, that comes with options for a turreted or fixed-mount weapon, and a range of different weapons that slot into place on either variant.

Although not being sold as a part of the core Maelstrom's Edge range, this kit is useful for those looking for a plastic track unit for conversions, or wanting to add some heavier firepower to their games. For the latter, you can find an unofficial rules card for the Epirian 'Thunderbolt' sentry drone in our Force Lists section here, or included in the PDF download in the Rules section here.

The gun carriage is available from the Maelstrom's Edge webstore now!

And stay tuned for an upcoming conversion article from Iain, using one of these carriages and parts from the Epirian Hunter war mech to build an all-plastic Epirian Automated Uplink Relay.
