More About Dakka

DakkaDakka - Warhammer, 40k, Warmachine and Flames of War Community.

DakkaDakka is a large, independent wargaming community that features discussion, tutorials and images for many games.

Warhammer 40,000

Our warhammer 40k forums are among our most popular. They have been operating the longest and contain discussion about every facet of warhammer 40k from tactics and army lists to background and upcoming releases.

Warhammer Fantasy

The Warhammer Fantasy Battle Forums are consistently increasing in popularity and are almost on a par with our 40k forums covering the same large range of content with advice from some of the best tacticians the world has to offer.

Warmachine and Hordes

Dakka now has one of the largest Warmachine and Hordes forums on the web, and has a huge range of Warmachine Pictures in our gallery.

Flames of War

Flames of War and other historical games are growing in popularity here on dakka and we invite anyone to join in and discuss them in detail. As flames of war grows more popular, Dakka's coverage will only increase. Be sure to check out the Flames of War gallery to see some inspiring stuff.

Dakka Features

Dakka is a big site with a lot to explore. Here we highlight some of our more interesting features:

Wargaming Gallery

The dakka gallery is one of the largest wargaming galleries in the world and has a huge range of tagged miniatures from many game systems. From flames of war to Maelstrom's Edge, and of course 40k. You can vote on images (like using hot-or-not), and use our advanced gallery search engine to find exactly what you are looking for, be it space marines, orks, cryx or Dark Elves!

Forums

The dakka forums are growing faster and faster and are the bread and butter of the website. They still maintain quality and a fair level of freedom compared to many other forums. Our most popular forum is News and Rumours, but Dakka Discussions and 40k army lists are very popular too. There are some important rules to consider (no spam, no swearing, no piracy) but everybody gets on well enough thanks to our great moderation team.

Articles

The dakka wargaming articles are run on a wiki (like wikipedia). We have a huge range of wargaming articles covering everything from tactica to modeling and painting and even some great funny stuff. If you are bored and want to have the equivalent of dozens of magazines to read then head over to the main articles page and start clicking around. Because it is a wiki, anybody can hop in and click the 'edit' tab at the top of the page, so if you have anything to add or just see some typos or bad grammar then you can help make it better for everyone.

Army Profiles

Dakka's army profiles are a throwback to the very earliest version of dakka from the late 1990s, where various armies were highlighted in detail. Our army profiles section now contains many armies from different game systems with in depth photographs, army lists and explanations of their signifigance from their owners.

Dakka Daily Poll: What is your opinion on measuring distances in wargaming.

Posted: 2021-07-27 09:59:07
What is your opinion on measuring distances in wargaming.
Every measurement must be exactly perfect every time, if you move a space marine 6.01 inches in his movement phase you are cheating.
As exact as possible, the game will take a lot longer, but it will be worth it in the end.
Try to be exact, but don't sweat the little stuff, especially in the first turn or 2.
Measure exactly for the first guy in the unit, then just arrange the rest so they are in roughly the correct position around him.
Eyeball it.
Just put your guys where ever, we assume superhuman space marines can manipulate the space-time continuum.
To cut out all the boring tactical positioning stuff we just arrange our troops in melee at the start, no measurements needed.

Dakka Forum: GW Releases through year's end?

Posted: 2021-07-27 05:59:07
Forum post by flaherty, 38 responses at time of this post.

Trying to map out what releases remain through the year's end based on what we know so far. Here's what I can recollect, with some dates being pure speculation.

August

+ Sisters of Battle finale
+ KillTeam starter
+ Thousand Sons/GK dual box
+ Stormcast/Orruk Battletomes

September

+ Stormcast/Kruleboyz releases
+ Chaos Battletome
+ Ork Codex/Combat Patrol/model wave
+ Beast Snagga general release

October

+ Aeronautica Imerialis: Wrath of Angels/Thunderhawk

November

+?

December

+ Battleforces
+ Underworlds?

Did I miss any confirmed products?

Summary:

The next two months seem absolutely packed. Unless they double up some weeks, it seems likely that the Aug/Sep releases will bleed into October.

Beyond the things we know about, there are some logical products we can expect:

- Battletome releases/Combat Patrol Equivalents
- Codex releases/Combat Patrols
- Rumored AoS Dual Box (GSG vs. BoC)
- Kill Team: They're presumably going to release the rules, and potentially, other teams.
- Necromunda/Bloodbowl/Titanicus/WarCry will all presumably get something.

So somewhere between 4-6 open release weeks not accounted for. Any thoughts on what might fill them?

this is my ork army, which is a work in progress that I should have finished orks coming along for you to see. I'm most proud of the war boss conversions and the scratch built trukk and waggon.
Have fun looking, if you like theses models I will be adding the pieces as I finish them, and once the whole set is finished I will sell them.

Dakka Forum: In a perfect world, what faction would you add to 40k?

Posted: 2021-07-26 16:59:07
Forum post by Tiberias, 36 responses at time of this post.

What I mean by perfect world in this case is a scenario where every current faction in the game already got updated, especially regarding models. So completely revamped eldar, imperial guard, no more finecast anywhere etc.
I'd consider this a condition that has to be met first, before any brand new faction would be added to the game. Also, let's just ignore for a second that this scenario either won't happen ever, or if it were to happen, it would be many years down the line probably. This is just a hypothetical question after all.

So, in that hypothetical scenario: what faction would you add to 40k if it were up to you?

For me it's hard to pick a favourite, but I have a ranking of 3 possible factions to be added to the roster:

1. Dark Mechanicum
2. Traitor Guard/Renegades and Heretics
3. Exodites

Why those and not some completely new faction like a brand new Xenos race? Because those three have existed for a very long time in the lore and have had some sporadic model releases over the years, I'd much more like to see those factions fleshed out than adding something completely new.
